Pazirik Rugs is the oldest rug; woven with symmetrical knots (Turkish rugs knotting) was discovered in Siberia by a Russian archaeologist in 1949. Due to the water, which penetrated into the tomb, Pazirik rug was frozen and miraculously preserved. Dated to 5th century BC, it is considered as the oldest rug ever woven with symmetrical rugs knots. These rugs with very high density of rugs knots and sophisticated rugs patters such as animal and human figures proves that rugs weaving is much older than 5th century BC.

rugs have existed for centuries, the earliest known Persian carpet found was the Pazirik rug, which was discovered in 1949 during evacuations of burial sites in the Altai mountains in Siberia.

The Pazirik carpet has a woolen pile with about 200 rugs knots per square inch.

Its central field is a deep red color and it has two wide borders, one depicting deer and the other Persian horseman rugs. It dates from the fifth century BC and is now kept in the Hermitage Museum of Leningrad
